KPE: An Example of Collaborative Online Learning

Bio
Dorothy_Burt
Dorothy Burt has been working at Pt (Point) England School for a number of years and leads the e-learning team there. She has spent the last three years facilitating the Pt England ICT PD Cluster and in 2007 is an e-fellow researching the impact of podcasting on students' reading outcomes.
One of the projects she has been involved with is Korero Pt England (KPE), a student podcast from Pt England School. Pt England students have become enthusiastic podcasters since they published their first episode back in August 2005. Their flagship podcast, Korero Pt England (KPE) has a global audience and won the 2006 Computerworld Excellence Award for their podcasting project "The Global Village".
In 2006 they also added kpeTV as a video podcast and produced some collaborative podcasts with other schools. These podcasts are mostly produced by students in Years 4-6.

Description
In this podcast presentation Dorothy talks about Korero Pt England, the podcast created by the year 4-6 students at Pt England School in Auckland. She discusses:
  • the process the students go through to create their podcasts,
  • the variety of collaborative opportunities this presents, and
  • the powerful part this plays in their learning.
Dorothy has also provided examples of student podcasts to accompany her presentation.
