Cluster Expo

Tonight we had out first Cluster Expo...what a great success. A BIG thanks to all of the schools for sharing the learning that is taking place in their schools. All of our cluster schools showcased one area of ICT. Many teachers from the cluster and wider community came and explored the stations, talked to the lead teachers, principals and students.

I took heaps of photos, video and audio footage. Keep a look out for the slideshow, video and VOX POP that I am editing. If you are wondering what a VOX POP is...
Vox Pop is short for Vox Populi which means “voice of the people” What happens is reporters go out onto the street and ask people questions. The idea is to get spontaneous opinions in a chance encounter - unrehearsed persons, not selected in any way.

Ulearn 07
blog

Wow! What a fantastic conference...Ulearn was held at Sky City in Auckland this year. Go and have a look at my blog as I have posted many comments on the workshops that I attended http://sarasblog.edublogs.org/ I will be using my blog to comment on professional development, ideas, reading etc so keep a look out. I am also asking for volunteers to take part in my gaming in education research.

Am looking forward to the coming Term with lots of inspiration.

Don't forget about the Cluster Expo on Thursday 25th October - Week 3. This will be a fabulous experience for sharing and learning. Remember that you are just show casing one aspect that is working well in your school. Lead Teachers were meant to have put their focus area on our wiki - have a look to see what schools will be show casing at the cluster expo

Keynote 08 - bluescreening
Have a look at the new Ministry software for apple. Keynote has some blue/green screening capabilities. We took a big book and students acted it out and created pages in KidPix. Some creative ideas to think about.

Lights, Camera, Action...
Our last Tech Angels days were spent focusing on movie making. We had very intense days with lots of learning. Our group was very lucky to have Wayne Codyre the Principal of Ross to talk to us about camera angels, shots, music and much more. It is amazing how much of an influence the music has on a movie...easy way to make people cry, be scared, or be happy.

Our Tech Angels (name to soon be changed) had one day of theory and planning and one day of filming and editing. A whole Term of work squeezed into two days...just as well our group are switched on and dedicated learners.

Our movies are based around suspense. The students had to make silent movies, and therefore had to think carefully about the message they were communicating as camera shots, angles and acting would play a serious part in their movie.

Ignition into 2007
At Tiritea School the teachers worked with me (Sara) using Umajin and blue screening to start the motivation into 2007. At the beginning of the Year the school wide focus is a unit called 'Super Heroes Unite'. This looks at how everyone has special powers/strengths and everyone also have weaknesses. Focusing this around a Superhero topic engages the students. By using ignition like the Incredibles etc students are getting excited about what 2007 brings. At the moment when you walk around their school you will see these posters (pictures below). Students have not been told what the focus is and these have been used to stimulate discussion and wonder.
